VOICELESS ORPHAN TASKFORCE UGANDA, a Non Government Organisation, began with two men’s response to one small claim upon their cultural and spiritual compassion. It did not begin as a major movement but as an act of obedience to the society at a specific time in a particular place.
GENESIS OF VOTU.
1997
Kakembo Edias Kikomeko and Sekitto Twahah become friends through hardships of some sort.
1999 March
With an urge to protect, feed, clothe, accommodate and pay school fees for the parentless children, Sekitto was overwhelmed by the number of children around his neighbourhood. So many children were helpless because of the HIVAids rate on the time and Wars, which had denied them the right to be with their parents. He was so sympathetic that whoever comes to his sight to ask for help, he would give what he has. Let it be 100/= or more. He could try to see that at least each orphan of the day leaves his house happy.
Source of money:
Mr. Sekitto usually got the money from individuals whom he contacted on behalf of these orphans. He could explain the bad situation of the orphans and if that individual buys the idea, then he could give some energy to him and that energy will find its way to the orphans many went to school through this process, the list is long. Nakanwagi Lilian, Nabagilanyi Hadijah, Nakato Shamim, Keneth .... Juliana Nankya, Bashiza James, Nsubuga Edger Semaganda Edward, Nabunya Hajarah and Kayonda Salaama but mention a few as many others benefited through Mr. Sekittos effort and programme. One time the money becomes so scarce that he went to the village and sold his fathers 7 cows! The father was furious but Sekitto was happy to know that the orphans should go to school for another year.
During that kind of help, you can’t miss creating enemies: -
